Staying at The Grand Hacienda is an entirely different experience from staying in the village or even one of our vacation rental homes. The Hacienda is located off of Abiquiú Lake, ten miles out of town, surrounded by a terrain of majestic beauty that is waiting to be explored. As you wind around the road above the lake, you will see The Grand Hacienda perched on the top of the mesa overlooking the water, red rocks and vast landscape. It takes trip on a dirt road to reach this paradise, and you won't find streetlights, stop signs, traffic lights or O'Keeffe busses. What you will find is peace, stillness, beauty and a sanctuary.

This magnificent adobe home, with reclaimed wood and authentic New Mexico design, awaits you. The bed and breakfast features three spacious guest rooms, each luxuriously appointed with magnificent views of Abiquiú Lake, Ghost Ranch and the red rocks. The stillness here is intense, as are the stars at night - no light pollution, no noise pollution. This truly is a paradise in the middle of The Land of Enchantment which can be hard to find in many places of the world. A stay with us is a chance to slow down, find balance and release the stress you may carry.

The Hacienda's build process took two years, and it is likely one of the most complex buildings in northern New Mexico. An authentic hacienda home filled with reclaimed wood, vigas, lintels, adobe, plaster and pueblo pottery is blended with modern technology and a very green footprint. Effort was taken to limit EMF frequencies throughout the home and extra solid soundproofing was blown into each wall. Grey water is captured and used to water trees and increase energy efficiency. We are honored to live in this environment, so solar and water reclamation was a requirement for us.

Each of the three guest rooms have private entrances with electronic door locks for those of you who prefer self check-in. You control your heating and cooling, including the warmth of your feet as you walk about on the floor equipped with radiant heating. The bathrooms are set to pamper with double sink vanities, a soaking tub, separate toilet areas and oversized showers that include a view.

And, while the bedrooms are amazing with their spacious king-sized beds, bonus sink and hand-troweled plaster walls, it's what is outside the bedrooms that cannot be duplicated anywhere in the world. You just have to open the sliding door to enjoy your own private outdoor portal and chimenea. Each bedroom has been designed to have amazing private views of the lake whether relaxing on the portal or lounging inside.

Guests also enjoy thoughtful common areas, including a kitchenette with full appliances and laundry facilities. The Great Room includes a breakfast area and blended indoor/outdoor seating when using the sliding glass doors that collapse into the walls. With a fabulous coffee, cappuccino, latte or tea in hand, browse the library, stocked with books on New Mexico, culture, arts and of course novels, and relax by the curved and tall kiva fireplace.

The Hacienda has a small gift shop in the office area with thoughtful gift items, local wares, on the go essentials and snack items. A courtyard centers the home with more outdoor seating and a fire pit. Built into the rocks in front is a hot tub (seats eight) that is the perfect evening spot to gaze at the dramatic starry nights we find in Abiquiú. As the only bed and breakfast in the county with a liquor license, we take our happy hours seriously. It is a time to connect, relax and enjoy.
