La Posada de Taos

La Posada de Taos Bed & Breakfast is a historic adobe inn just two blocks from the Taos Plaza. As the first B&B in Taos, La Posada is unique among the town’s small Inns. Set inside the Taos Historic District, the home has stayed true to its roots as a Pueblo-style Hacienda. The guest rooms are each decorated in a style true to Taos and original artwork adorns the
walls throughout the home.

Our position close to Taos Plaza affords opportunities few others have:  strolls through the shops and galleries, immediate access to the finest restaurants in Taos, and short walks to the Harwood and Blumenschein Museums.

Now you can book your entire stay online and then contact us directly through our “Ask the Innkeeper” section to express an interest in any of the incredible eco-tourism or adventure travel opportunities in and around Taos.

The main house was built in 1905-06 by Burt Phillips, one of the founders of the Taos Society of Artists, for his daughter Margo on her marriage to William Beutler, a young local attorney who rose to some prominence in his later years. The young couple raised a son in the house at the end of Juanita Lane who later became the basis for one of the central characters in the classic coming-of-age story “Red Sky at Morning” by Richard Bradford. Margo Phillips-Beutler continued to live in the house for over 50 years.

The home's location in the Historic District west of the Plaza has afforded it a measure of peace and quietude that few historic homes ever experience. Centuries-old acequias (irrigation channels built by the original Spanish settlers) still run through the neighborhood fed by waters from the Rio Pueblo. A supply of adobe bricks original to the home is kept on site for repairs. Coyote fences and low adobe walls surround the property much as they did over a century ago. Breathtaking views of Taos Mountain are still maintained for guests who enjoy breakfast on a brick patio each morning.

La Posada de Taos is a historic Inn with six guest rooms about two blocks west of Taos Plaza. Taos is a small town surrounded on three sides by 11,000 and 12,000 foot peaks. Two blocks further west of the Inn is a bluff overlooking park and pastureland. Located in the historic district, the neighborhood is best characterized by its winding lanes and adobe structures. It’s a unique setting to say the least.

Taos is a special place where stories abound with love and the fulfillment of spiritual journeys.  History is rich here, but the present is characterized by the richness of fine art created under one of the most amazing skies in the world.

What is the difference between an average vacation and an unforgettable one?
Where you spend it, of course!

For centuries, Taos has been home to American Indian tribes, Spanish Conquistadors, settlers from most European nations, Mexican immigrants, and, most recently, Americans seeking a better life in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Northern New Mexico, U.S.A.

Because the home was built by a historicfigure in the history of Art in Taos, it holds a special place in this small town. Start your historic tour right where you're staying. We'll be glad to point the way to other nearby historic sites within walking distance of the Inn.

From dramatic sunrises to stargazing nights, romanticmoments abound at La Posada. Our century-old adobe home captures the elegance and charm, the quiet and calm, the slower and simpler world of the Southwest.

Take a sunset walk down narrow lanes lined with stately trees and adobe homes, spend an intimate evening by your fireplace, or relax on your veranda surrounded by beautiful gardens that soothe your spirit.

Enjoy all that La Posada has to offer—a place to get away, a time to relax, a retreat to a peaceful hacienda, under a Northern New Mexico sky.

One of the oldest traditions at La Posada de Taos is sharing breakfast. At 8:15 each morning, we all sit down and share a sumptuous, hot breakfast in our rustic dining room. A typical leisurely breakfast starts with perfectly brewed coffee and tea, an assortment of juices, a freshly-baked item such as our famous Chili-Pinon Scones, and a bowl of fresh, seasonal fruit. At 8:30, we serve the hot main dish, usually accompanied by traditional breakfast meats. Whatever day you stay at La Posada, you can expect a delicious meal beautifully prepared.

Reception Snack Buffet
Enjoy a variety of savory treats and refreshing beverages during our daily afternoon snack between 4 and 6 p.m.

La Posada prides itself on attention to detail. You will find 600 thread count sheets and other linens of the highest quality. Our housekeeping will clean your room each day of your stay. All rooms except the Taos Room feature kiva fireplaces where our staff will personally build you a fire each day.
